SMOKING SARCOUGHAGUS

So, I was making a diorama of an Egyptian tomb. And I needed props for it. So, I got out the clay. I decided to make a sarcoughagus. it was AWESOME! I had every little detail.

Then, we baked it. After a while, my Dad said, "Is something burning?" My Mom and I rush over to the oven and open it. Loads of smoke comes out! We get the tray out. Smoke is rising from the sarcoughagus! It looked so creepy! The clay was burned to a brown (it was white). But other than that, it was fine. It even looks aged.

WATER PARK!

So, now that we homeschool, we get to go on super fun vacations! On Thursday, we went to an indoor water park. It was amazing! Ok, so there were two huge slides 4 STORIES HIGH! AWESOME! One was green and the other was yellow. My Dad and I went on the green one first. It was Amazing! You sit in a big tube and the slide goes outside and then back inside! So much fun! Then my Dad said, "Hey, let's go on the yellow one now." So we went. Unfortunately, first, I was going backwards, and second, my Dad knew something I didn't. This....was the HOWLING TORNADO! So, on the other slides when there's a drop, it's 1-2 feet ok. So, my Dad sayd, "Oh, here's a drop!" And, I'm imagining 1-2 feet down. No. It's at least 20 feet down...no joke! AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! And, then, it's like a funnel! Water is pouring in, we're bouncing around, and finaly we're out! There were many other rides, even a fort that dumped water on us. But, those two were the most fun! by far!

School in Pajamas!

(I wrote this last Friday, but we're just now getting around to posting it!)

Hello again! :-) This week was really fun. Here’s three of the subjects I’m going to tell you about: history, art, and faith club.

So here goes. First, I’d like to tell you about history. This week I’ve been learning about ancient Egypt. I learned about sphinx, pyramids, hieroglyphics, mummies, tombs, and more! The Rosetta stone was how people finally translated Egyptian. It had the same words in Greek, and Egyptian.

Next I’d like to tell you about the faith club get together I had this week. So 8 girls ended up coming. That day was Our Lady of Sorrows, so we had a craft, where we made Mary’s heart out of card board, felt, markers, and cotton. We put seven coctail swords into it for the seven sorrows of Mary. We also iced, and ate heart shaped brownies. After that, we played outside. :-)

Last, is art. This week, my mom and I went outside, and drew three things that we liked. You can see them below. But it was hard, since we had to take baby with us. She went to our pump, and started to lick the rocks there! Wow, right? Then, she’d run off, and we’d have to go catch her! :-) She didn’t seem bothered by the bugs, but my mom and I were being eaten alive! So not the best art day. But still fun.

Field Trip Week!

Hello again! I would like to share with you an amazing week I had. Ok so who here likes butterflies? Ok, how about marine animals? I know you all like beaches, right? Well if you like any of those, you’ll love this blog! Well, let’s get started!

Ok so to start off, I want to tell you about the field trip my mom and I took. We went to a butterfly garden. It was a beautiful garden.

So many different flowers, and colors, and fountains too!

It was so pretty. As we kept walking, we began to see more and more butterflies. Then we came upon a butterfly nursery. It had caterpillars, chrysalises, and butterflies. Mostly monarchs, some of them were smaller, and green. They were beautiful! I almost touched one!

There was also a small bird sanctuary. There was a parrot, and a lot of duller colored birds.

It was a wonderful field trip! :-)

Now to tell you about the beach! My Dad and I took a four day trip to the beach. It was so much fun! Our hotel had 1 bed room, I living room, a bathroom, and a kitchen. My dad slept in the bed room, and I slept in the living room, on the pull out couch bed. There was also a balcony with an ocean view. How awesome!

At the beach, I had a whale of a time! I could smell the salty ocean, and feel the sand swish between my toes. I ran to the ocean and jumped a wave. My dad and I built an awesome sand castle. I collected some cool shells. In the ocean my dad and I took turns on the boogie board! :-)

There was an amazing, huge souvenir shop close to our hotel. So we went there, and wow. Two stories high, this store had everything! So what I got there, was a plush dolphin, a shell box, and a necklace with a real pearl inside! How cool?

Now, while on that vacation, my dad and I took a trip to the aquarium there. It was amazing! So first, there was an area that had some cool swamp themed animals. Snakes, crocodiles, turtles, an albino alligator, and even a quail that walked around free! I could have picked it up! It was so cool! And then, there was the marine animals area. So cool! Fish, stingrays, sharks, jellyfish, and lots more! Even a great blue whale was hanging up! It was the coolest aquarium ever!

Edible School

Hello again. I am writing about my second week of home school. Harder, longer, a bit more topics, but all in all, still fun. So if you liked my blog last week, then you’re sure to like this one. So again, I’m going to tell you about three subjects, and then a couple extra topics. So let’s get started.

Well, who doesn’t love cookies? What could be better than ending the day with a yummy chocolate chip cookie? Ending the day with two chocolate chip cookies! So, I’m finishing up school, and mom is down stairs. So I come down stairs, and my mom says “CLOSE YOUR EYES!” Really fast. So I close my eyes, and she tries to put something in my mouth. It’s cookie dough! She’s baking cookies! So I end this week with a yummy cookie. :-)

Ok. Now, I’m going to tell you about my reading class. So last week, I read about Father Damien. “Father Damien, went to Hawaii. To Hawaii went Father Damien. He helped the lepers, and got sick, too. The martyr of Molokai.” So this week, my assignment was to write a report about leprosy, which you can read right now:

Leprosy

Leprosy
“Leprosy is an infectious disease that has been known since biblical times.” (2) Leprosy is a bacterial disease that effects the nerves, and the skin. “Leprosy is a chronic bacterial disease of skin and nerves in the hands and feet, and in some cases, the lining of the nose.” (1) Leprosy is not commonly found in the United States. It is most common in more tropical areas.

What are the symptoms?
There are two kinds of leprosy. “Turberculoid, and lepromatous.” (1) one of the tuberculoid leprosy symptoms are skin lesions. Skin lesions are spots on your skin that are lighter than the rest. Some of the lepromatous leprosy symptoms are stuffy nose, and skin lesions.

How is it spread?
“Anyone can get leprosy, but children seem to be more susceptible than adults.” (1) Nobody knows exactly how the leprosy germ is spread, but you shouldn‘t get to close to someone with leprosy. “The germs probably enter the body through broken skin.” (1) It’s possible to get leprosy by inhaling.

Treatment & medicine
“Patients with leprosy should be treated by a doctor who has experience with the disease. Treatment is with multiple drugs for six months to two years.” (1) Now a days, it’s easy to treat leprosy. (3)

So, that’s what I worked on in reading, this week. Did you like it? I took notes, and wrote 3 drafts of it. Wow, I sure am glad to be done with that! :-)

Another topic I’d like to tell you about, is history/geography. We studied land forms. So for land forms, I did a really fun craft. So I took half a gram cracker, and some chocolate icing. On top of the cracker, with the icing, I created land forms. They’re so cool!

Another thing we did, was draw the earth on a grape fruit. Then, we carved out the inside. After that, I tried to make it flat. but you can laugh at me during this video. Enjoy. :-) Rats, the video is too big to upload :-( Here are a few pictures:

The project was to show there are many different ways to make the earth two-dimensional. Maps distort either shape or size.

Last subject. :-) Art. Yes. Remember that pretty elephant? Well, that seems to only have been a phase. My mom and I both were surprised at how different these looked from last week’s elephants. We drew illustrations for a story about six blind men describing an elephant. Have a look.

So, for another art assignment, we picked a favorite topic to draw. My mom picked chocolate cake! How yummy! :-) so here’s her picture.
